Cook County Hospital

Cook County Hospital has carried Chicago’s memory in its masonry. Vacant for nearly two decades, its grand Beaux-Arts façades, towering windows, and operating rooms lost to time, posed a question: can history and infrastructure be reconciled?

The adaptive reuse of this landmark is more than restoration. It is a test of fidelity to architectural lineage and of infrastructural rigor: preserving proportion, repairing terra cotta, restoring daylight, while weaving in the demands of mixed-use programs, hospitality, security, and contemporary building systems. For Level-1, this was familiar terrain, we don’t merely adapt buildings, we reinvest legacy with performance. In this project, technology infrastructure honors heritage without compromise, enabling systems that serve guests, medical offices, public space, and community alike.

A Civic Renewal

LaSalle Street Reimagined

LaSalle Street has long embodied Chicago’s commercial power. Today, its surplus of vacant office towers presents a different challenge- How to reprogram an urban canyon built for finance into a civic landscape responsive to housing, equity, and public life.

The LaSalle Street Reimagined initiative signals more than adaptive reuse. It is a test of architectural and infrastructural imagination, asking how existing frameworks of scale, circulation, and material permanence can be reinterpreted to sustain a mixed-income, mixed-use future. For Level-1, it is an opportunity to align technology with urban design, ensuring that systems for connectivity, safety, and accessibility reinforce the larger ambition of transforming the Loop’s identity from a workplace district into a lived-in neighborhood.
