CHA - Lowden Homes
Level-1 designed future-ready infrastructure for a mixed-use development rooted in long-term community resilience on Chicago’s South Side.
In the heart of Chicago’s South Side, Lowden Homes represents a pivotal investment in modern public housing safety and resilience. Originally constructed in 1953 and named after Illinois statesman Frank O. Lowden, this 127-unit development has undergone a substantial transformation led by the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) to enhance residential security, sustainability, and centralized monitoring. The upgraded property now incorporates modern building systems such as energy-efficient hot water heaters, insulated building envelopes, and intelligent sensors to improve both resident comfort and operational insight.
As part of CHA’s broader strategy to modernize legacy housing stock and protect vulnerable communities, Level-1 Global Solutions was brought on to install a high-tech, unit-level electronic monitoring system across the entire development. Our work enables real-time visibility into life safety conditions such as smoke, heat, water leaks, and hazardous gases improving emergency response, reducing infrastructure risks, and empowering CHA with data-driven facility oversight.
The integration of sensor-based intelligence across Lowden Homes is more than just a technological upgrade; it’s a shift in how public housing can be maintained, monitored, and safeguarded to better support the long-term health and stability of residents.
Our Scope Included
- Installation of electronic monitoring systems in 127 units, including smoke, heat, water/leak, and hazardous gas detection
- Integration of fire detection and protection systems into the newly renovated infrastructure
- Deployment of a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) system to translate sensor data into actionable operational intelligence
- Configuration of unit-level sensors to report to centralized CHA monitoring systems for proactive facility management
- Cabling, equipment installation, and system calibration to meet CHA safety and performance requirements
By engineering this next-generation monitoring solution, Level-1 helped the Chicago Housing Authority turn a mid-20th-century housing development into a forward-looking, digitally empowered community. Our work ensures that each home at Lowden is protected by intelligent systems that alert, inform, and respond creating safer living conditions and laying the foundation for smarter, more accountable public housing.
