Chicago Public Schools WAN-LAN Network Improvements

Level-1 upgraded WAN/LAN networks across 640 CPS sites, boosting security, bandwidth, and digital learning access districtwide.

As the second-largest school district in the nation, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is composed of an expansive network of pre-K–12 schools, alternative learning centers, administrative offices, and support sites. With more than 75 percent of its student population classified as economically disadvantaged, CPS remains committed to delivering rigorous instruction and digital equity in every neighborhood.

To meet the demands of modern education and digital learning, CPS embarked on a sweeping initiative to modernize its wide area (WAN) and local area (LAN) networks. Sentinel Technologies and Level-1 Global Solutions were selected to lead this transformation, tasked with upgrading CPS’ wireless infrastructure and enhancing network security, performance, and reliability at scale.

Level-1 played a central role in engineering and implementing WAN/LAN system improvements across all 640 district facilities. This included removing and replacing outdated switches, configuring secure wireless access points, and installing equipment capable of delivering higher bandwidth and seamless device connectivity. Every installation aligned with CPS Board of Education standards and supported the growing fleet of learning devices deployed to students and staff districtwide.

The upgrades not only improved remote management and monitoring capabilities for CPS IT staff but also fortified the digital foundation needed to support future-ready learning. The enhanced network ensures that CPS can deliver uninterrupted digital instruction, adaptive testing, virtual learning platforms, and high-speed communications across all campuses.
