Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications Technical Writing Services

Providing Technical Expertise to Support and Maintain an Emergency Dispatch System

The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) manages incidents and coordinates large-scale events; operates the City’s 911 Center for police, fire, and EMS response; operates the 311 City Services Center; oversees the Traffic Management Program and Crossing Guard Program, and provides technology among other forms of support to the City’s public safety departments to protect lives and property in the City of Chicago.

OEMC needed to upgrade their computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system to send emergency vehicles throughout Chicago without the need for a time-consuming radio call from a human dispatcher. Level-1 was recruited by Northrop Grumman to provide technical writing services in a subcontractor role to support the implementation and documentation of OEMC’s CommandPoint® CAD System, including functional specification training, testing, as-built, and acceptance documents for network architectures and CommandPoint CAD interfaces and user and system acceptance documentation.
