Project Management Tools for the Nation’s Second Largest Public Transportation System

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates the nation’s second-largest public transportation system with 1.6 million average weekday riders. The CTA serves Chicago and its 35 suburbs by providing 81 percent of the public transit trips in the six-county Chicago metropolitan area with around-the-clock service on certain routes.

The CTA needed project management assistance and technical expertise for implementing information security standards on their enterprise applications architecture as well as recommendations for project and portfolio management tools.

As a subcontractor to Northbridge, Level-1’s full scope of services for CTA included advanced planning, requirements determinations, systems engineering, program management, enterprise architecture, business process reengineering, systems standardization, investment management, lifecycle support planning, operations and sustainment, and testing support.

Level-1’s solution was to develop and implement a consistent and standardized process for project management/methodology and integrate it into CTA’s business and IT processes using the Total Lifecycle Project Management™ method.

Level-1 also assisted with the integration of applications architecture standards, disaster recovery and business continuity planning and implementation services, system integration services, customized applications, and augmented network documentation.
