Hilton Garden Inn and Hilton Canopy Hotels

Transforming a Chicago Landmark Into Needed Lodging for Chicago’s Southwest Loop

The former City Colleges of Chicago headquarters building at 226 W. Jackson Blvd. was purchased in 2018 by a venture led by Phoenix Development Partners, who hope to convert this 238,000-sf landmark building into a 349-room hotel to capture the market that new developments in the southwest area of the Loop are promising to deliver. The 14-story building is to be converted into a dual-brand Hilton hotel, which will be split between a 135-room Hilton Garden Inn on the lower floors and the first Chicago example of the company’s upscale Canopy by Hilton brand, which will have 214 rooms on the upper floors. The project is expected to cost $100 million.

Level-1 was responsible for the design, installation, and project management services for voice, data, video, A/V, and security systems and building automation; design, build furnish and installation, operation, and maintenance. The security camera system consists of 32 Pelco security cameras throughout the hotel. Level-1 also provided audio and control systems and training for all systems. A/V equipment included Martin Audio speakers, Crestron control, and Lab Gruppen amplifiers.
