Improvements for Agency that Serves Chicago’s Low-Income Families

Cook County is the second-largest county in the U.S. and home to more than 40% of all the residents in Illinois. The Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) is the second-largest public housing authority in Illinois, serving 108 communities and unincorporated areas and administering several rent assistance programs with the goal of providing safe and desirable housing for all county residents. The HACC’s conventional public housing program consists of 2,100+ owned units of low-income housing. The Rent Assistance Division services 13,000+ families, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. HACC’s mobility assistance, family self-sufficiency, and home ownership programs are designed to make a positive difference and help participants achieve independence.

HACC hired Level-1 to upgrade their VMware environment from ESX 4.x to the newer ESX 5.x version at two locations for a total of five hosts. Level-1’s installation services for new VMware included:

  • Confirmation of assumptions about the existing VM environment (i.e. desired version of ESX design)
  • Complete server build-out and & ESX Software Install for five servers
  • Configuration of VMWare for five servers and complete storage
  • Implementation, migration, and testing of VMs to new ESX environment closeout
