Providing Engineering Design Services for Communications of the Nation’s 2nd Largest Commuter Rail System

Since 1984 Metra has been the name of the Commuter Rail Division of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), a system that serves two million riders each weekday in six counties with 7,200 transit route miles throughout Northeastern Illinois. Metra provides safe, reliable, and efficient commuter rail service that enhances the economic and environmental health of the entire RTA area.

Metra needed communications engineering and design services for data collection, project programming, project management, site selection, schematics, and design development and construction documents.

Level-1 designed a system of communications cabinets, shelters and data centers as well as power protection, life safety, security, and video surveillance systems. This included the design of communications cable installation with all hardware; design of communications network infrastructure; design of communications equipment cabinets, shelters, and data centers; design of power requirements, duct banks, life safety, and data centers; and security and credentialing video surveillance.
