One Chicago Safety and Security System

Providing Safety and Security to a New Jewel on Chicago’s Horizon

The $850-million One Chicago development will set a glossy new peak on the city’s iconic horizon with a pair of luxury residential towers with premier amenities, transforming an entire block of the River North neighborhood by replacing Holy Name Cathedral’s parking lot and several unused buildings.

One Chicago will offer approximately 812 residential units, 55,000 square feet of office space, and 188,000 square feet of retail, including a flagship Whole Foods Market and a Life Time fitness club and wellness center. Other features include a large rooftop garden, a restaurant, and an event center catered for receptions for weddings at the cathedral.

The massive towers are anticipated to extend 969 and 574 feet high atop a share podium building that will house retail and other amenities, with the taller of the two towers becoming the sixth-tallest structure in Chicago at 78 stories. All traffic, services, and parking for the development will be enclosed and controlled within the podium building via a covered auto court and truck turntables on the ground floor and basement loading dock areas.

Scheduled for completion in 2022, the project is led by JDL Developments and design firms Goettsch Partners and Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture (HPA), with Power Construction serving as the general contractor.

“One Chicago will transform an underutilized site in the heart of River North into a dynamic, multifaceted development,” said Jim Plunkard, AIA, founding partner of HPA. “The project has been thoughtfully crafted to integrate millions of square feet of new programming into an authentic, urban experience for building users, neighborhood residents, and the city as a whole.” (source: Design Raid)

Level-1 has been selected to provide an advanced safety and security system for the One Chicago podium building’s parking/loading areas that will be integrated with the larger development’s access control system and other critical IT infrastructure systems.

Working with the primary contractor, G4S, one of the largest physical security firms in the world, Level-1 will manage the system’s design and deployment. It will include a substantial number (confidential) of cameras and electronic door and elevator readers along with the related copper and fiber-optic distribution along with the PSIM head-in console infrastructure.

Level-1 will also coordinate the procurement process, consult and supervise multiple vendors and contractors to support the overall project management, and conduct diagnostic audits and systems integration and configuration modifications during and post-deployment.
