ABN AMRO Bank On-Site Data Center

Level-1 delivered a scalable, resilient IT infrastructure across 29 floors at ABN AMRO’s U.S. headquarters in downtown Chicago.

When ABN AMRO established its U.S. headquarters at 540 W. Madison in downtown Chicago, it sought a resilient, high-performance infrastructure capable of supporting continuous financial operations across 29 floors. The vision: a fully integrated on-site data center and distributed communication enclosures to anchor the firm’s global trading and banking systems with security, uptime, and efficiency. 

Level-1 Global Solutions was selected to lead the engineering and implementation of this advanced infrastructure. Our role encompassed the design, procurement, and installation of multiple clean-power communications closets and an enterprise-grade data center with full life safety integration. Standardized across floors, the solution allowed for a seamless rollout while delivering cost efficiencies through volume procurement. 

Each 84” x 36” floor enclosure featured built-in power protection, temperature and humidity controls, SNMP-monitored environmental sensors, and physical access security. At the heart of the deployment, a centralized data center housed secure rack-mounted servers supported by battery backup, high-frequency grounding, and emergency electrical shutdown systems. The entire system was built to support both data throughput and mission-critical uptime across the enterprise.

This high-rise deployment elevated ABN AMRO’s operational resilience and created a blueprint for scalable enterprise infrastructure in dense urban environments. Level-1’s solution helped ensure that every floor of the building contributes to a unified, secure, and mission-ready communications architecture designed to meet the global demands of modern finance.
