Hines Veterans Hospital Audiovisual Installation for Medical Simulation

Level-1 delivered AV, MATV, and access control integration at Hines VA Hospital, transforming a legacy building into a modern training and rehab space.

Located just 12 miles west of downtown Chicago, the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital provides primary, extended, and specialty care to more than 57,000 U.S. military veterans across Cook, DuPage, and Will counties. As the southern-tier hub for multiple clinical and administrative services in the VA’s VISN 12 region, the hospital is a national leader in veteran rehabilitation, housing specialized programs in spinal cord injury, blind rehab, radiation therapy, and cardiovascular surgery. 

As part of a facility-wide modernization, the VA repurposed a three-story building on its 147-acre campus to serve as an advanced exercise and training center supporting patient fitness, staff meetings, and ongoing clinical education. Level-1 Global Solutions was selected to design the audiovisual, MATV (master antenna television), and access control integration for the facility. 

As a subcontractor to A. Epstein & Sons International, Inc., Level-1 was responsible for the design and implementation of modern low-voltage systems in a legacy structure that required significant infrastructure upgrades. We collaborated with the project architect to refine equipment layouts, resolve power and distribution challenges, and ensure all systems met VA performance and compliance standards.

• Design and deployment of a full audiovisual system supporting exercise, conferencing, and educational use 
• Installation of a key scan based access control system with door controllers tied to telecommunications rooms 
• MATV integration for distributing live TV and content to wall-mounted displays throughout the building 
• Distributed audio system for fitness and meeting spaces, configured via AV cabinets on the first floor 
• Technology layouts, equipment selection guidance, vendor coordination, and on-site quality certification 
• Structured cabling documentation and bid-ready design package for audiovisual and security systems 

By modernizing this facility’s infrastructure and deploying intuitive AV and access systems, Level-1 helped the VA realize its vision of a multifunctional space that supports rehabilitation, learning, and secure operations.
