Michael Reese Development (GRIT)
Level-1 is designing future-ready infrastructure for Chicago’s Bronzeville Lakefront, a smart, sustainable innovation district rising on the historic Michael Reese site.
At the former site of Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, a major South‑Side redevelopment is underway, Bronzeville Lakefront, a multi‑billion dollar mixed‑use community spearheaded by GRIT. This ambitious project aims to transform 48 acres of Chicago’s Near South Side into a globally minded health‑innovation district, inclusive housing, commercial space, data‑centric facilities, open‑space amenities, and a walkable neighborhood reconnecting the lakefront to the Bronzeville community.
As the master plan evolves to reflect future-ready infrastructure, Level‑1 Global Solutions has been engaged as a key consulting and integration partner tasked with designing the technology, power, data, and smart‑infrastructure backbone that will support this next‑generation neighborhood. Our role ensures that Bronzeville Lakefront is built not just for buildings, but for connectivity, resilience, sustainability, and long-term community benefit.
Our Scope Includes
- Strategic planning for campus-wide technology infrastructure tailored to mixed‑use, high-density urban development
- Electrical power infrastructure planning to support high-capacity data, energy systems, and future scalability
- Campus fiber-optic distribution layout and planning to deliver high‑bandwidth connectivity for residential, commercial, and medical/research tenants
- Smart‑building infrastructure planning enabling integrated building automation, energy management, environmental controls, and future expandability
- WiFi network design and installation for public spaces, residential units, commercial zones, and campus-wide coverage
- Security camera and access‑control systems planning and deployment to safeguard facilities, residents, and visitors
- Planning for autonomous vehicle infrastructure (e.g., AV lanes, pickup/drop zones, EV‑ready power, future mobility integration)
- Renewable energy infrastructure planning and integration, aligned with sustainable community goals and green‑building initiatives
- Building automation systems infrastructure design to coordinate power, data, security, and environmental systems centrally
- EV‑charging system planning to accommodate future residential and commercial electric vehicles
- Data center fiber‑optic infrastructure planning to support on‑site data center(s) envisioned in the development master plan
By embedding this integrated digital and physical infrastructure at the earliest planning phase, Level‑1 is helping GRIT and the City of Chicago lay the foundation for a resilient, connected, and sustainable community. Our work supports the vision of Bronzeville Lakefront as not just a redevelopment site but as a living, evolving urban ecosystem where innovation, wellness, and community converge.
